about me

Jo Selmeczy (they/them) is a joint BA/MA student at the University of Chicago majoring in Theater and Performance Studies and Comparative Human Development. They are a director, dramaturg, and playwright who utilizes devised techniques and embodied research to explore gender performance and queer futurity. They are passionate about learning in/with/through doing, and approach each project with a combination of enthusiastic curiosity and in-depth analysis.

Jo’s directing, dramaturgy, and playwriting styles constantly overlap and influence each other, inspiring bold and innovative approaches to any project they collaborate on. Their experience in performance, design, and management has provided them with an interdisciplinary skillset which consistently informs their artistic perspective.
